ADONIS secures environmental accreditation

One of the Midlands' leading construction companies, Adonis Construction, is celebrating after being awarded a prestigious environmental accreditation.

The Black Country-based construction firm has successfully secured ISO 14001, the internationally recognised standard which relates to the environmental aspects which a business has control over and those over which it can be expected to have an influence.

In order to secure 14001 accreditation, Adonis was challenged to meet a number of environmental management recommendations. These included providing company-wide training on green issues, implementing energy efficiency programmes and introducing environmentally-friendly waste

management plans for all new construction projects.

Receiving the award from Ian Pearson, MP for Dudley South, Adonis' health, safety and environment manager, Peter McConville said: "We are delighted to be awarded ISO 14001 status.

"This accreditation is yet another example of Adonis' ongoing commitment to best practice and environmental responsibility.

"Without doubt, ISO 14001 adds another string to our bow. It gives us an edge over our competitors and encourages a cultural shift amongst staff towards greener thinking. We see it as an important milestone and will continue to strive to improve our environmental performance

in line with our existing Corporate Social Responsibility programme."

Mr Pearson also paid tribute to Adonis' green achievements. A keen environmentalist and former Minister of State for Climate Change and Environment in the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, he said: “Adonis is a good example of a Black Country company that is showing the way in modern construction.

“The company’s commitment to sound and sustainable environmental management is commendable and I look forward to hearing about their continued success as their progressive policies pay dividends.”

Never one to rest on its laurels, the ISO 14001 accreditation is the second award coup for Adonis in recent weeks.

The company's automotive division has just been presented with a Considerate Constructors Scheme award for exceptional work at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Ascot.
